SMART Objectives for Research Publications on Environmental Sustainability

  1. Specific: To produce peer-reviewed research publications that address key environmental sustainability challenges such as renewable energy, mangrove conservation, and waste reduction, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  2. Measurable: To publish at least 5 sustainability-focused research papers in Scopus-indexed or equivalent journals over the next 2 academic years.
  3. Actionable: Establish a university research task force by Q3 2025, consisting of at least 10 faculty members and graduate students, to identify topics, seek funding, collaborate with communities, and coordinate research outputs.
  4. Relevant: The research publications will support SIU’s mission to integrate sustainability in higher education and promote environmentally conscious innovation, aligning with national and institutional research priorities.
  5. Time-bound: Complete initial literature reviews and proposal submissions for all 5 papers by December 2025, with final manuscript submissions completed by June 2026.
