Shinawatra University has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), a premier institution ranked 7th nationally in technology education and operating across 24 campuses throughout the Philippines. This strategic alliance marks another significant milestone in Shinawatra University’s commitment to internationalization and sustainable development.

The signing ceremony was spearheaded by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ratthaburut Khumsap, Vice President of Shinawatra University, who has championed academic collaborations in curriculum innovation, joint research, student exchanges, and—most notably—community engagement through academic service.

At the heart of this partnership is the integration of PUP’s technological expertise into Shinawatra University’s flagship community development initiative, the “Re-Gen: Circular Sustainability for Community”project, led by the Faculty of Liberal Arts. This collaboration focuses on sustainable environmental solutions and community technology development, with a special emphasis on the creation of a Smart Composting System—an innovative model designed to transform organic waste into valuable resources.

The Re-Gen project is led by Dr. Chanyanan Somthawinpongsai, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, and supported by a dedicated team of faculty members who are working closely with PUP experts. The collaboration fosters not only technological exchange, but also mutual enrichment in knowledge and cultural understanding. The smart composting system, developed under this partnership, is intended as a scalable prototype for real-world application in Thai communities and across neighboring countries.

More than just an academic initiative, this partnership positions Shinawatra University as a regional hub for sustainability-oriented innovation blending science, technology, and the humanities into impactful, community-focused solutions.

The collaboration exemplifies Shinawatra University’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its bold vision of becoming a socially conscious world-class university.
